Blue John Find!

Wow - have just rediscovered this wonderful picture book by local author Berlie Doherty - a great writer whose many books  are inspired by the beautiful Peak District landscape in which she lives . It is beautifully illustrated by Tim Clarey and tells the story of the Queen of Darkness  who lives under the ground in the shadow of a mountain, Mam Tor. Before she was carried down into the shelter of the cavern, she snatched the two things she could not bear to leave behind - the purple-blue heart of the glacier and the gold of the sun. Out of these she makes a child and names him Blue John. He lives in the caves with her, forbidden to go out into the light but one day a party of children comes to the caves and Blue John follows them out into the sunshine and is turned to stone.

Absolutely fantastic!

(Blue John is a precious stone mined in the Blue John and Treak caverns of Derbyshire. )

Will the last person leaving the Constitutional Republic that was the United States of America please turn out the lights.

Thanks for your publication on this weblog. From my personal experience, many times softening up a photograph might provide the wedding photographer with a chunk of an artistic flare. Often however, that soft blur isn't just what exactly you had planned and can in many cases spoil a normally good image, especially if you anticipate enlarging the item.
