Hercules and the Farmer's Wife Find!
This curious title belongs to a book published in 2009 by Chris Wadsworth. Chris is the owner of Castlegate Gallery in Cockermouth and the book is the story of how she moved to Cumbria, bought Castlegate House and turned it into a very successful and nationally recognised art gallery. In the book we meet the artists who Chris brings to the gallery including Percy Kelly, L. S Lowry, Sheila Fell and Winifred Nicholson. Perhaps the most interesting artist turns out to be Karen Wallbank, the famer's wife in the title of the book, who lives in the back of beyond and paints in between helping on the hill farm where she lives with her family. The book has a lovely cover - a picture of Whitehaven harbour painted by Percy Kelly.
